I swear NetEnt is like the Harvey Dent of online slot providers. One half of them is this brilliant, brilliant developer who, I swear, has the freshest ideas on the market, period. Their best slots are utterly spectacular, to the point where they can make even the biggest critic of the slot medium stop and think twice about their hatred for it. Slots such as South Park have shown us time and time again that, with enough effort, you can truly make a product that’s not only giving you money but is also extremely fun to play and is very faithful to its source material. On the other hand… There’s stuff like Starburst, which is the epitome of “zero ef’s given” when it comes to making slots (ef stands for effort, of course – in case you were thinking something else). There’s absolutely no attempt to make them good (not perfect – just good) put into them whatsoever and are literally as simplistic and basic as slots get, to the point where even fruit machines (which are simple by design) would say “I’m not saying you’re basic, but you make Kanye West look like Martin Luther King”. Sadly… Twin Spin falls into the latter category.

Basic Features

Twin Spin is so basic that I can literally just point you to Starburst and say “Here, go ahead and read that”, because the slots are nearly identical. They both have awesome, crisp visuals and smooth animation… and literally nothing else. No bonus games, extremely lackluster bonus features. You know the stereotype you see in movies set in Vegas where slots are literally nothing more than just some random symbols on a screen that shift a bit with the pull of a lever? While slots (and online slots in particular) have worked hard to break that mold, Twin Spin embraces it fully.

One thing that I have to make abundantly clear before we delve deeper into this review is that, well, there’s really not a whole lot to say here. Twin Spin is about as basic of a slot as you can possibly be. Below I’m going to speak a bit about the sole bonus feature of the game (if you can even call it a “feature”… or a “game”), but other than that there’s really not too much ground to cover here, so I apologize if I’m stretching my words or appearing to talk about nothing. Most times, there’s too much stuff in a slot to talk about in a short, concise review. This time, there’s not enough.

Paytable

The biggest kick in the testicles/ovaries is that on top of not being fun to play at all, Twin Spin also doesn’t really pay all that much despite having 243 paylines. The absolute highest you can possibly get from symbols is 1,000 times your bet… But it’s about as likely as winning the jackpot in most progressive slots. No, more often than not you’ll be getting much smaller sums, such as 150 or 50 times your wager, and that is when you win at all. While my experience is extremely subjective, I didn’t really win all that often, at least not nearly as often as other NetEnt slots, but still.

Low winnings are typically a staple of NetEnt, but that’s fine – not every slot needs to be played for money. For every Mega Moolah there should also be a The Avengers – a slot that doesn’t really pay too well, but is too much fun to play regardless! Twin Spin is not that slot. It’s not fun. It doesn’t pay well. So at a certain point, you have to wonder why you’re even playing it. If it’s the simplicity that attracts you, you’re much better off just playing a fruit machine, some of which can and will pay a lot more than this slot ever will.

Bonus Rounds/Free Spins

Now, before I can really speak about the bonus feature of the game, there are two things I need to make perfectly clear – first, I don’t fully understand how it works, and second, even so, it’s entirely inconsequential to the overall experience. If you were wondering why the game was called “Twin Spin”, well, you care a lot more than I do at this point, but let me indulge you – it’s because of the Twin Reel feature. Basically, at any point, a reel can “double” (replicating itself and all of its symbols to its side, thus automatically giving you double symbols). Under certain, and relatively unclear conditions, the two reels can expand and cover three, four or even all five of the rolls, thus giving you 3 rows of 5 identical symbols, which can, in theory, net you a pretty good sum.

“Wait, that’s it?”, I may hear you ask. Yes, that’s it. That’s literally it – a bonus “feature” that doesn’t even offer any interactivity whatsoever. Sure, bonus features such as those in Aliens don’t offer any interactivity either, but their sheer spectacle factor is more than enough to make up for that – even though you’ve got absolutely no control over whether the marine manages to kill the alien queen or dies in the process, it’s literally impossible to look away during what will undoubtedly be the most nerve-wracking minutes of your day. But that game feels earned. You unlock it through hard work and a lot of work. Here? You don’t feel anything but “meh” when it’s activated and a bigger “meh” when it ends.

Experience of Playing the Slot and Other Recommended Games

I’ve said this before, and I shall say it again – don’t play this slot, guys. Just don’t. It’s really not worth the time and money you’d spend on it. If you’re reading this, that means you’re an intelligent, informed, curious gambler who’s very much interested in finding the absolute best that the online slot world has to offer… And that means that this slot just wasn’t made for you, plain and simple. It was made for all those people who don’t care about what slot they’re playing as long as they’re playing something. It was made for everyone who clicks on the first slot that their online casino suggests to them and makes absolutely no effort to even care about whether what they’re playing is any good or not. And look, I’m not trying to berate these people, because at the end of the day we like what we like. But my job is to be a reviewer first and foremost, and a reviewer has to stay objective no matter what. And objectively, Twin Spin just isn’t a good slot at all. I’m sorry, but it’s the truth. So the only advice I can give you is to not support lazy development and actually play the slots that have a whole lot of effort thrown into them. Slots such as Gonzo’s Quest, Monopoly… The list goes on and on and on. There’s no shortage of great slots, so go out there and give them a spin!
